From humble beginnings, to CEO; now Mike Jacobson represents the people of the 42nd District of the Nebraska Legislature, and we couldn’t think of a better person for the job! Mike has embodied the example and cultural standards that he has set for himself, his company, and what he hopes our community will be known for. While taking on this duty, he will remain an integral part of the Bank he built from the ground up as President and CEO.
Mike has always led by example that’s why it’s not surprising to find NLB employees serving on boards and at the wide variety of volunteer opportunities NLB provides. In 2019 Mike received the first ever Community Impact Volunteer of the Year award from the North Platte Chamber. “When you look back at the last several years, it’s hard to find anyone who has more of a community impact through their volunteer efforts than Mike Jacobson” Gary Pearson President and CEO of the North Platte Area Chamber and Development Corporation said.
Mike has put in a lot of years of leadership with several different roles, such as chairman of the City of North Platte’s Community Redevelopment Authority, board member of the Airport Authority, board member of Great Plains Health, Chairmen of the Chamber’s Governmental Affairs Committee and so much more. “Mikes leadership is exemplary which is apparent through his accomplishments. He has been a faithful servant to the community, the state and the banking industry. He is determined, a thoughtful decision maker and passionate about his beliefs. I have no doubt he will be an excellent representative of District 42” said Kim Schroll, Chief Operations Officer of NebraskaLand Bank.
We know that we say it quite often, but we truly mean it. Community is the cornerstone of our culture and without our leadership team, and the vision of the man who built NebraskaLand Bank from the ground up, we wouldn’t be able tell you how strong our culture’s foundation truly is.
From the beginning, Mike knew that he wanted to start a local bank that invested in the community through volunteerism and financial support to schools, the arts, and local non-profits. But he also knew that he wanted to create an environment where people felt valued and where their strengths were brought to their full potential.
Mike has made workplace culture a priority. As a result of this culture, NebraskaLand Bank has been named one of the “Best Bank’s to Work for” by American Banker and Best Companies Group for the past three years. Within this past year, NLB ranked #5 in the Nation for treating people right. “Mike is a teacher, a leader and a motivator for his bank employees. It is obvious when you hear him speak that he is proud of his staff and confident in our abilities,” said Mortgage Loan Officer Tonya Duncan.
As a community leader, Mike has always ensured that he has educated staff on a weekly basis of goings on in the community, as well as an overview on local, state, and national news as it effects our profession. He is constantly educating himself on these issues and we have confidence that he will be a well-informed representative for our state. "I understand the political process. I understand how bills are done, but I also know that this is day one and I'm a newbie. And so, I'm going to rely really heavily on others in the legislature to help guide me this first time through," Mike said.
All of us here at NebraskaLand Bank wish you the best in your new role and future campaign as our 42nd District representative of the Nebraska Legislature.
